Bird Problems Cost More Than You Think

Once pigeons or gulls settle on a building, the problem grows fast. Every unprotected ledge, canopy and plant area becomes a roosting spot, and the costs stack up week after week.

  • Fouled entrances and walkways create slip hazards and a poor first impression for visitors, customers and staff.

  • Plant rooms and rooftop equipment attract nesting pigeons, and the resulting build-up puts anyone accessing the area at risk.

  • Droppings corrode roofing, cladding and stonework, turning a cleaning problem into a repair bill.

  • Loading bays and canopies give birds sheltered roosts directly above stock, vehicles and people.

  • Blocked gutters and vents from nesting material lead to leaks, damp and ventilation failures.

  • Shop-bought spikes and gadgets fail because birds work around badly placed or flimsy deterrents within days.

If DIY bird deterrents have not worked and you need professional bird netting, bird spikes or another proven method installed properly, you are in the right place.

The Right Fix For Your Site

Bird Deterrent Solutions For Every Commercial Site

From bird netting and spikes to acoustic and laser systems, we match the deterrent to the building, the species and the way your site operates.

Bird Netting

A physical barrier that blocks birds from canopies, loading bays, roof voids and plant areas. Discreet, UV resistant and effective from the day it goes up.

Bird Spikes

Stop pigeons and gulls perching on ledges, beams, signs and pipework. A simple, humane and cost-effective fix for targeted problem spots.

Traditional Bird Control Systems

Bio-acoustic units, hawk kites and bird mesh that make your site unwelcoming to problem birds, often used alongside netting or spikes for full coverage.

Laser Bird Deterrents

Automated 24/7 laser protection for large roofs and open sites where netting is impractical. A single unit covers up to 12 acres.

Monitoring & Maintenance

Ongoing support that keeps your netting, spikes and deterrent systems performing long term.

Whether you need bird netting for a loading bay, spikes for a ledge or a deterrent for a large industrial roof, we will identify the right approach after assessing your site.

Bird Netting & Bird Spikes in more detail

Bird netting creates a permanent barrier that birds cannot breach, while still letting air and light through. Bird spikes deny birds a stable landing surface on ledges, beams and signs without causing them harm. Both are fitted with corrosion-resistant fixings for years of low-maintenance protection.

A short, no-obligation conversation about where the birds are, which species you are dealing with and how the problem affects your site.

Site Survey

A specialist walks the building with you, checking ledges, canopies, roof areas and access points where birds are roosting or nesting, then confirms what will actually work.

Tailored Proposal

Professional Installation

Trained installers fit your proofing at height, safely and with minimal disruption, including any cleaning and disinfection needed before netting goes up.

Ongoing Support

Inspection and maintenance visits keep netting taut, fixings secure and deterrent systems performing year after year.

100%

Seagull reduction

ALDI Distribution Centre, Bathgate

A severe seagull problem made roof maintenance dangerous and led contractors to refuse work on-site. After deploying the AVIX Autonomic Mark II, activity was eliminated from day one – and four years on, ALDI installed a second unit as a preventative measure.

“The setup of the lasers is also a lot less intrusive than netting, which was ideal for us. We had a purpose-built chiller constructed at the same site and decided to install lasers on this as well, and to date, we have not had any birds on it.”

216 m²

Bird netting installed

Bowden Moss, London

Bowden Moss needed two large entrance canopies protected from pigeon roosting and nesting. We installed professional-grade bird netting across both canopies, 216 square metres in total, using stainless steel fixings throughout for a secure, discreet and weather-resistant finish. The work was completed during building renovation, protecting the property before any bird problem could take hold.

50mm

Pigeon netting, full exclusion

School Plant Room, Milton Keynes

We carried out a full clean and disinfection of a pigeon-fouled plant area, then installed 50mm pigeon netting to exclude birds completely, removing a significant health and safety risk for site staff and contractors.

ALDI Distribution Centre, Bathgate

Where netting is impractical, we have the alternative covered. Our automated laser deterrent eliminated seagull activity at ALDI Bathgate from day one, with results sustained over four years.

common questions

Bird Netting, Spikes & Deterrents Explained

It depends on the building, the bird species and where the problem is. For enclosed or semi-enclosed areas such as canopies, loading bays and plant rooms, bird netting is usually the most effective option because it physically excludes birds. For ledges, beams and signage, bird spikes are a simple, reliable fix. For very large roofs and open sites, automated laser deterrents often work better. A site survey identifies the right approach for your building.

They solve different problems. Bird netting blocks access to whole areas, making it the right choice for canopies, roof voids and plant enclosures. Bird spikes prevent perching on narrow surfaces such as ledges, pipework and signs. Many commercial sites need both, and we often install them together as part of one proofing scheme. The survey tells us which combination will work for your building.

Professionally installed bird netting is a long-term solution. We use UV-resistant netting with stainless steel fixings that withstand UK weather without corroding or degrading, so a quality installation provides reliable protection for years with minimal upkeep. Poorly fitted or aged netting is a different story, which is why we also reinstate and replace failed systems installed by others.

Yes. Bird spikes do not harm birds. The upward-pointing rods simply deny birds a stable landing surface, so they move on to perch elsewhere. All the methods we install, including netting, spikes and deterrent systems, comply fully with UK wildlife protection legislation.

Traditional bird control covers physical and natural deterrent methods: bird netting, bird spikes, mesh, bio-acoustic systems that play predator and distress calls, and hawk kites. These methods have a long track record on commercial sites and are often combined so birds face more than one form of deterrence. We install all of them, alongside modern laser systems where they are the better fit.

Not with physical proofing. Bird netting and spikes are barriers, not scare tactics, so there is nothing for birds to get used to. They simply cannot access the area. Habituation is mainly a risk with static visual or sound-only deterrents used on their own, which is why we design proofing schemes around exclusion first and support them with other methods where needed.

Every quote is based on the site itself: the area to be covered, the height and access involved, the species and whether any cleaning is needed first. That is why we survey before we price. What we can say is that professional proofing is usually cheaper over time than repeated cleaning, gutter clearance and repairs, because netting and spikes solve the problem once rather than treating the symptoms. Your proposal sets out clear, fixed costs with no vague pricing.

We work with commercial and industrial sites across the UK, with recent netting and deterrent installations in London, Milton Keynes, Bedford and beyond. Get in touch and we will confirm coverage for your location and the fastest way to get a surveyor to your site.
