Bird Control Spikes

Accurately deter birds from any location with Bird Spikes

Bird infestations can damage buildings and create health risks. Integrated Bird Management provides bird control solutions to protect commercial properties using humane, non invasive methods.

Our spike systems (along with netting and acoustic deterrents) prevent perching on ledges, gutters, and roofs without harming the bird. These solutions are effective, eco-friendly and tailored to your needs.

Bird Control Spikes

How Do They Work?
Overview of Our Bird Control Spikes

  • All our spikes have blunted tips and flexible bases. They never impale or injure birds. Instead, spikes simply make landing uncomfortable so birds quickly learn to move elsewhere.

  • Spikes provide a physical barrier, so birds cannot perch or roost on treated surfaces. This makes them 100% effective (when properly installed) at deterring pigeons, gulls and other medium to large birds.
  • Made from weather resistant materials, our spikes withstand sun and rain. Stainless steel pins and UV stabilised polycarbonate bases resist corrosion for years.

  • Once mounted, spikes require virtually no up keep. There are no moving parts or power needs – just a permanent deterrent 24/7.
  • Available in various widths, heights and colours. Spikes can cover any edge (flat or curved) by using flexible stainless-steel strips. We have narrow spikes for window sills, wide spikes for parapets, and special models for solar panels, signage and architectural details.

A key feature of bird spikes is humane operation. The design is purely deterrent: pins are blunt and somewhat flexible so any contact only produces discomfort, not injury. When a bird attempts to land, it simply finds no foothold (and may feel a gentle poke on its chest) and flies away.

The RSPCA notes that bird spikes, when correctly installed, are one of the most humane bird deterrents available, as the spines do not impale but only prevent comfortable roosting.

In the UK all wild birds are protected under law, so approved methods like spikes are required to be non injurious. Rest assured that our spike products comply with wildlife regulations and prioritise animal safety.

Light conditions

A higher laser output power is recommended for use during bright light conditions.

Distance and Beam Angle

A higher laser output power balances out the loss of contrast due to spreading of the laser beam over a larger surface area.

Local environmental conditions (albedo)

A higher laser output power is recommended for use in an environment with light absorbing surfaces.

Materials Used

Our spike systems use industry grade materials for durability. The pins themselves are typically 304 grade stainless steel (resists rust and bending) set into a rigid base of UV stabilised polycarbonate. The polycarbonate (Durolon/Lexan) can be clear or coloured (black, brown, or green) to blend with the building façade.

Some models use heavy duty plastic strips with stainless pins, offering a lower cost option. We also offer all metal gutter spikes with 100% stainless steel construction and built in clamps for roof edges Every material is chosen to endure harsh weather: spikes remain intact and effective even after years of exposure.

Common Questions Bird Spikes

Absolutely. Bird spikes are legal and widely used across the UK. Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, deterrents must be humane (which spikes are), so professional pest controllers favour approved products like these. Many property managers prefer spikes because they are a safe, non lethal way to resolve bird issues in compliance with UK regulations.
Spikes are very versatile. They can be installed on almost any flat or slightly curved exterior surface (ledges, roof peaks, signs, etc.). We recommend stainless steel spikes on curved or uneven edges (their bases flex to fit). Special gutter spike strips clamp directly into gutters, while flat strips work on window sills and beam edges. If you have a unique structure (solar panels, towers, monuments), our team can advise the optimal spike model and layout.

Yes, bird spikes can be effectively installed on solar panels to prevent birds from nesting underneath or perching on them. Specialised solar panel bird spikes are designed to fit the contours of solar installations without causing damage, ensuring optimal performance while deterring birds.

Bird spikes are most effective against medium to large sized birds such as pigeons and seagulls. Smaller birds, like sparrows, may navigate around spikes or even nest between them if the spacing is too wide. For comprehensive bird control, spikes can be combined with other deterrents like bird netting or optical gels.

High quality bird spikes, especially those made from stainless steel, can last up to 20 years with proper installation and minimal maintenance. Their durability makes them a cost effective long term bird control solution.
